In Winter, Microspikes or Snowshoes depending on the snow conditions | Carry plenty of water | Walk on a narrow and windy ridge | dangerous cornices

Views: 360-degree views - Mt. Rainier, Mt, Stuart, Cle-Elum lake, and several others.

Area: Snoqualmie Region, Washington

Trailhead: Exit 80 off of I-90 and drive north on Bullfrog Road. Turn right onto SR 903 (Salmon La Sac Road) at the round-about and drive through Roslyn. Continue 9 miles to the junction with Forest Road 116. and park before the yellow gate.

Pass: None needed

Stats: 7.3 miles, roundtrip; Elevation Gain: 2700 ft. Highest Point: 5034 ft.

Journey:

We arrived there at 8 am and realized that the parking before the yellow gate is very limited and was lucky to get a spot. Saddled up with microspikes and hit the trail which was snow-covered from the get-go.

We ignored any branding off roads and trails headed in a northeasterly direction. After 1.7 miles, took a sharp right to leave the road for trail #1343 (Hex Mountain trail), Clearly marked but easy to miss if you did not pay attention. From here the narrow trail now will follow the spine of a ridge through the forest. We took caution to stay away from the edge to avoid the cornices. Eventually, veer to your right, and then travel up the steep, bare, and windswept knob of the Hex Mountain summit.

We chose a perfectly nice bluebird day with no wind. I heard that it is rare to have a clear day and wind-free. We enjoyed the views from the top. We followed a narrow spine to go to the summit and enjoyed the views.
